Jerry Wood to lead Sussex GOP
Republican Party volunteer and Frankford resident Jerry Wood is the new chairman of Sussex County’s Grand Old Party.
Wood beat out Michael Triglia, a Seaford chiropractor and Sussex County native, in the vote, held Feb. 13 at a Republican committee meeting in Georgetown.
Wood told the Cape Gazette he became an election district chairman in 2008, and since then he has represented the Republican Party at community gatherings, such as Apple Scrapple and Selbyville Old Timers Day.
As chairman, Wood said, he plans to train all district chairs in volunteer practices and smart canvassing and schedule their activities leading up to Election Day.
Wood earned a bachelor’s degree and completed several graduate courses at American University in Washington, D.C. He owned a real estate investment company before he retired in 1993 and moved to Delaware.
Former GOP Chairman Glen Urquhart announced at a January Republican committee meeting he planned to resign. Urquhart is seeking the Republican nomination against Lewes resident Ernesto Lopez in the race for Sussex County’s new District 6 Senate seat.
