John E. Burton, retired butcher

John E. Burton, 84, departed this life Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2019, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes after a long illness.

He was born in Millsboro April 5, 1935, the son of the late Herbert L. Burton Sr. and the late Florence E. Burton.  He was born a twin; his twin brother James passed from illness during infancy.  He was born the ninth child of 18 children.

He attended the schools of Millsboro #204 and William C. Jason Comprehensive High School.  He worked at SuperFresh Store in Lewes as a butcher until he retired.

John was full of fun and loved to play sports.  He will be sadly missed for his caring ways.

He was preceded in death by his brother: Herbert Lee Burton Jr.; and sisters: Anna M. Showell, C. Agnes Tankard, Dorothy E. Byrd, Frances E. Hardcastle and Mary I. Taylor.

John is survived by his brothers, William E. Burton, Charles T. Burton, Oliver V. Burton (Helen), H. Nelson Burton Sr. (Mary), and Joseph L. Burton; his sisters: Martha V. Wise (Junior), Princess C. Purnell and Fay E. Burton;  as well as a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and a very close friend, Robin Irving.

Funeral services will be held at Dickerson Chapel A.M.E. Church, 28845 DuPont Blvd., Millsboro, Friday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m.  Friends are invited  from 10 to 11 a.m., for viewing and visitation.

Interment will be private. Arrangements by Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro.
