Jose Carmen Hernandez, always happy

May 30, 2022

Jose Carmen Hernandez, 25, of Georgetown passed away Monday, May 23, 2022, at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pa.  He was born  April 23, 1997, in Lewes, son of Veronica and Carlos Figueroa.

Jose grew up in Georgetown and attended various schools and programs throughout his life, including Nurses & Kids in Milford, Shell's Recreation Center in Milton, Howard T. Ennis School in Georgetown, where he received his high school diploma, and Delaware Mentor in Millsboro.  He loved music, slinkys, shadows, sprinklers, hand over handcrafting, and unwrapping packages, "wheelchair" speed racing, as well as all kinds of food and watching colorful cartoons.  Jose thrived on interacting with others while exuding positivity everywhere he went.  Always happy, especially when he was playing with his siblings, nurses, and spending time with his family, all of whom he loved so much.  Jose was a loving son, grandson, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend.  Loved by many, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Jose is survived by his parents:  Carlos and Veronica Figueroa of Georgetown; his grandmother, Ninfa Wolfe of Milford; his grandfather, Joseph Ashley Wolfe of Milford; his siblings, Anthony Penawell (Kinde) of Dover, Kassandra Figueroa and Diego Figueroa, both of Georgetown; his aunt, Tiffany Wolfe of Milford; his cousin, Thalia Campbell of Milford; his uncle, Chris Wolfe (Kim) of Bishopville, Md.; his nephew, Giovanni Penawell; and his many extended family members.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to his primary nurses, Kayla Quarrick, Kandi Airey, and Robin Laffey, along with the numerous other nurses and staff of Aveanna and Bayada Home Health Care for the exceptional care given to Jose in recent years.

Special thanks as well to the staff of Howard T. Ennis School, who played such an important role in Jose’s life.

A celebration of Jose’s life will be held at 4 p.m., Friday, June 3, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Dodd-Carey Chapel, 307 N. Bedford St., Georgetown, where friends may visit beginning at 3 p.m.  Interment will be private.
