Just Us rescue to fund spay/neuter for community cats
Just Us Cat & Kitten Rescue recently announced it has given a $2,500 grant to provide free spay/neuter services for 100 community cats at the Brandywine Valley SPCA facility in Georgetown.
Those who would like to register for the Just Us sponsored spay/neuter program should email ganderson@bvspca.org. Cats must be delivered in traps and will receive an ear tip to show they have been spayed or neutered.
Once again, volunteers will be working with two long-term partners, the Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown and Last Chance Animal Rescue in Waldorf, Md.
Just Us is fortunate to have access to BVSPCA veterinarians and tech staff each Wednesday. Three programs are conducted at the Georgetown facility. Volunteers register cats and kittens for the spay/neuter program, prepare cats and kittens for transport to the Maryland rescue group, and manage an evaluation program for future transport candidates. A team of volunteers assists Bob Harrison, Just Us president, with each week’s program operations. Among them are Ellie Mayhew, president of the Dewey Beach Feral Cat Society, and Clare Mace of Cats Around Town, serving the Ocean View and Dagsboro areas. In 2024, Just Us funded 1,004 spay and neuter operations at the BVSPCA.
Access to LCAR resources on a weekly basis is critical to the mission of Just Us. LCAR programs provide many feline friends with another opportunity for adoption. Last year, Just Us transported nearly 1,000 cats and kittens to LCAR, in addition to the many adopted locally as the result of a wide network of foster volunteers.
Just Us also partners with the Cat Nippers of the Long Neck/Pot-Nets area. With their support, volunteers conducted 10 low-cost vaccine clinics in 2024, providing services for more than 700 dogs and cats. In 2025, clinics will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the second Sunday of each month except August and December; dates are: March 9, April 13, May 11, June 8, July 13, Sept. 14, Oct. 12 and Nov. 9. Visit the Just Us Facebook page for a list of services offered.
New in 2025, Just Us will support the cat food bank at the BVSPCA with donations for community use. In January, 1,000 pounds of cat food were donated by the nonprofit and delivered to the Georgetown facility.
Just Us is a 501c3 nonprofit founded in 2006 to help spay and neuter community cats; it focuses on serving the eastern part of Sussex County. The group’s mission is to trap/neuter/release as many cats and kittens in Sussex County as possible, and facilitate the adoption of friendly cats and kittens in need of forever homes. Volunteers answer a variety of phone calls during the year, help cats in distress, foster and transport cats and kittens, facilitate TNR services and help with food.
Donations are always appreciated and acknowledged; they may be sent to Just Us, PO Box 32, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971. For more information and to learn about volunteer opportunities, call Judy Kane at 302-542-5507.
