The 142nd Running of the Kentucky Derby capped off an exciting afternoon at Northbeach in Dewey Saturday, May 7, as friends of the Cancer Support Community watched Nyquist edge out Exaggerator and Gun Runner to win the first leg of this year’s Triple Crown. As guests cheered their favorite horses to victory, the true victor was the Cancer Support Community. Through a robust Derby Horse Raffle and Silent Auction, supporters raised funds to support cancer survivors and their caregivers here in Sussex County. Special thanks to the Highway One Group for providing a wonderful venue and delicious food, and to Flowers for Taco for providing some great music for the event. Last, but not least, thanks the wonderful volunteers who truly made the day possible.
The Cancer Support Community is part of a national nonprofit organization that provides support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. Through participation in professionally led support groups, educational workshops and mind/body classes, people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce isolation and restore hope regardless of the stage of disease. At the Cancer Support Community-Delaware, all programs are offered at no charge to participants. More information about Cancer Support Community is available at www.cancersupportdelaware.org.
