Kevin Reading among chefs to compete in Milton Sept. 27
Kevin Reading will be a featured chef in the third annual King Cole Cannery Celebrity Chef Cook-off and Basket Raffle from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, at the Milton Fire Hall. The fundraiser will benefit the Milton Historical Society's many programs and exhibits. Reading is the owner and founder of Abbott’s Grill in Milford and Abbott’s on Broad Creek in Laurel. He has over 35 years experience in the restaurant industry both as a restaurateur and a chef. Soon after graduating from the Philadelphia Restaurant School in 1994, Reading opened the acclaimed Fox Point Grill in Wilmington, which won a Best New Restaurant Award in 1995.
In the years following, Reading ventured to southern Delaware to open Rehoboth Beach favorites Espuma, offering Spanish Mediterranean cuisine, and Nage, a French bistro. Both restaurants were highly regarded by patrons and won multiple awards. He and pastry chef Andrew Hooven later opened award-winning Sweet Dreams Bakery in Rehoboth. Reading has won numerous awards including Restaurateur of the Year from the Delaware Restaurant Association.
Most recently, Reading partnered with the owners of Mispillion River Brewing Company to open the first brewpub located in Smyrna, Brick Works Brewing and Eats. Reading remains hands-on and highly active in all three of his current ventures in both front-of-house and back-of-house roles.
