Kiwanis, Key Club refurbished Rehoboth nativity

December 24, 2018

The removal of the Rehoboth Beach nativity scene from the Bandstand property stirred a lot of controversy this year. That’s not surprising given the depth of the tradition in the resort town. We looked into the Cape Gazette archives and found this photograph taken in December of 1998. In that year, members of the Rehoboth Beach Kiwanis Club and their student counterparts in the Cape Henlopen High School Key Club worked with art teacher Connie Miller to clean up, repaint and repair some of the figures that had been used for decades.

Shown with the completed nativity scene on what was then the back side of the Bandstand are (standing on the left side, l-r) Bud Vogt, Emily Martin, Tony Perrello, Kanchan Kurani, Jim Addison, Nicole Gipko, Rachel Mulveny and Jamie Pratt. Kneeling in front are Al Gardenhour and Bill Nelson. Standing in the group at the right are (l-r) Jack Eliason, Ashley Hardesty, Jerry Spellman, George Vest, Art Pressl, Joe Gardner and Russ Palmer.
