Hundreds of people spent Saturday afternoon in Rehoboth Beach April 6 with little cups and cards in hand for the third annual Gumbo Crawl.
The event is a fundraiser for Rehoboth Beach Main Street.
This year, crawlers got to sample gumbo at 26 downtown restaurants.
Each eatery served up its version of the Cajun favorite, which is a stew that typically includes shrimp, chicken, sausage and rice.
Each crawler had a card to rate their favorites.
“Above The Dunes was really, really good,” said Diane Stackhouse from Lancaster, Pa., who was still in the early stages of sampling.
“It’s his 60th birthday,” said Margie Cregan of her husband Jim, who was eating gumbo from DiFebo’s at the time. “Everyone is so friendly. It’s a great way to support the town. We’re going to try to hit them all,” she said.
Rehoboth Beach Main Street tallied up the results, and the top three favorites were: 1) Blue Moon, 2) Above the Dunes, and 3) Mariachi.
RBMS Administrative Assistant Linda Corcoran said organizers sold 1,000 tickets, which was a complete sellout.
Corcoran said the fundraiser supports Main Street’s mission to foster and promote a vibrant, year-round, in-town experience for business, residents and visitors.
