Lewes man, 82, dies after being struck by octogenarian driver near Long Neck

Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision involving a pedestrian that occurred in a Millsboro parking lot Tuesday afternoon.

James Crowl, 82, of Lewes, died Nov. 8 after being struck by an 85-year-old driver at a Long Neck grocery store.

Crowl was pushing a shopping cart at 2:33 p.m. in the parking lot of the Weis store on Route 24 when a Millsboro man, 85, driving a red 2016 Toyota Corolla in the parking lot struck Crowl with his car, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.

Crowl fell to the ground and was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead, DeMalto said. 

The driver of the Toyota was not injured, and no other vehicles were involved.

The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this incident. Troopers ask anyone who witnessed this collision to contact Sgt. J.
