Lewes man faces burglary, theft charges
Lewes police have arrested an 18-year-old Lewes man on burglary and theft charges following an April 18 incident.
Police said they were notified of a burglary that had just occurred in the unit block of Baybreeze Drive. A female victim said she was in her garage and had left her front and back doors open. When she left the garage, she observed a man, later identified as Ramairo Shuler, leaving her back yard. She immediately entered her home and discovered her purse and other property were missing. The woman reviewed video from cameras she has inside, which allegedly show Shuler entering her back door, and taking her purse and other items.
Lewes police officers searched the area and learned from a neighbor that she had hired a young man to perform landscaping work at her home, but he had left shortly after the time of the crime. Based on this account, police were able to identify Shuler and locate him at his home, where he was arrested. All stolen items were located and returned to the victim, police say.
Shuler was charged with felony second-degree burglary and felony theft under $1,500 where the victim is 62 years or older. He was arraigned and released on $3,000 unsecured bail.
