Lewes Tulip Festival Photography Contest exhibit set April 6-7
Sue Eberhart’s “Still Beautiful” from the Tulip category was the grand prize winner for the 9th Annual Lewes Tulip Festival Photography Contest.
In all, 86 entries from 24 photographers were received for the six subject categories: Tulip, Lewes Architecture, Quintessential Lewes (iconic Lewes image), Local Food, Black & White, and Lewes Landscape. The entries were judged by five professional photographers who are also members of the Lewes Chamber of Commerce – Kevin Fleming, Brook Hedge, Dave Koster, Ginny Stominksi and Carolyn Watson. Each category has a first-place, second-place and third-place ribbon award, with the highest-rated entry designated as grand prize winner which receives a $100 prize as well as the ribbon.
The Lewes chamber is one of six organizations that sponsors the Lewes Tulip Celebration taking place April 6-15 this year. The others are the Lewes Historical Society, Lewes in Bloom, City of Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission, Historic Lewes Farmers Market and Zwaanendael Museum.
All of the entries will be exhibited from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Friday, April 6, and 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 7, in a tent in Zwaanendael Park. The photographers will receive their awards at a ceremony starting at 2 p.m., April 7, in Zwaanendael Park. For more information, call the Lewes chamber at 302-645-8073.
In the Tulip category, Kathryn Harris won first place with “April Showers.” Second place went to Sub Eberhart for “Dreamy.” Nancy Allen was awarded third place for “One in Every Crowd.”
First place in the Lewes Architecture category went to Kathryn Harris for “A Snowy Morning.” Second place went to Nancy Allen for “The Rear of the Cottage.” Rich White took third place with “Vintage 1920s Façade.”
In the Lewes Landscape category, Marta Nammack won first place with “Harbor of Refuge and Stormy Seas,” and she also took second place for “Harbor of Refuge Under Clouds.” Third place went to Bill Meehan for “Frozen.”
Marta Nammack took first place in the Black & White category with “Harbor of Refuge at Sunrise.” Kathleen Collins won second place for “Paddleboard at Sunset.” Third-place winner was Joe Hengel for “Two Modes of Transportation.”
In the Quintessential Lewes category, Deb Payette won first place for “Coming Home.” Second place went to Marjorie Wilson for “St. Peter’s Blessed Birdhouse.” Claire Ingley took third place with “Restored Townsend Barn at Sunset.”
Sue Eberhart won first place in the Local Food category with “Creamy Brioche, Station on Kings.” Charles Payette won second place for “Popping Fresh, Lewes Fish Market.” Third place went to Sharon Monagle for “Spikey.”
