The Lewes/Rehoboth Major All-Stars ran into a barrage of Canal bats July 28 in an 18-1 loss in the first round of the state tournament.
The Lewes/Rehoboth squad could only muster two hits, while the Canal team pounded out 16. Jack Simeone went yard for the only RBI for Lewes/Rehoboth. Lukin Jones had a single.
“They were a good team and I’m proud of the way our team handled themselves in a tough game,” said Lewes/Rehoboth manager Greg Jones. “I didn’t do my job as manager and put them in a position to win.”
Lewes/Rehoboth spread out the mound duties between six pitchers. Ben Tollett started the game. Coming in relief were Nick Clampitt, Canaan Mears, Theo Hart and Carter Staggs. Mears had three strikeouts. Clampitt and Staggs each had one.
Brody Fleming, Aiden Collie, Julian Onley and Matthew Rice all had multiple hits for Canal.
Fleming took the W on the mound for the Canal team.
Lewes/Rehoboth will play the loser of Canal and Camden/Wyoming in a game set for 7 p.m., Friday, July 30. Lewes/Rehoboth must win out to take the state championship.

The Lewes/Rehoboth 8-10 All-Stars were eliminated from the state tournament July 28 with a 12-7 loss to host Naamans Little League. Lewes/Rehoboth opened the tournament with a 12-2 loss to Middletown/Odessa/Townsend July 26.
