Linda P. Miller, active in community
Linda P. Miller (Weatherly), daughter of Fred and Willie Mae Weatherly, was born Thursday, April 22, 1954, in Exmore, Va. She passed away, surrounded by her loving family, Wednesday, June 23, 2021. She attended Delaware Technical Community College in Georgetown, where she received her GED and completed college courses.
Linda retired from Orthopedic Associates in Lewes in December 2017. She was a people-person and made friends with everyone whom she encountered. Linda was a constant talker and the glue that held her family together. She would always encourage her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers, sisters and cousins. Linda was always willing to give advice to anyone who asked and even to those who did not ask. She enjoyed going to the family reunions. In addition, she was a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan.
Linda was a member of Faith United Methodist Church, Rehoboth, where she served as a member of the United Methodist Women and Finance Committee. She was also a member of the Adult Church School and the recording secretary for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Organization, Sussex County. Linda was a volunteer for the First State Community Action Agency After School Program and the Cape Henlopen School District After School Program. She was eventually hired as an assistant teacher for both organizations.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Willie Mae Weatherly; and three siblings, Ernest Weatherly, Francis Waters and Fred Weatherly II.
Linda leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 48 years, Alphonso K. Miller Sr.; children, Claudia Reese (Edward Jr.), Alphonso K. Miller Jr. (Gail) and Marlon Miller Sr. (Liz); grandchildren, Jocelynn (Freddie), Devin, Dominique, Edward III (Lakisha), William, Aaliyah, Logan, Lakia, Breck, Lark and Marlon Jr.; great-grandchildren, Paris, Jordynn, Delaney, Ja’Zaria, Ja’Kai, Ja’Mauri, and William Jr.; sisters, Evangelist Lorraine Jones, Pastor Dorothy Coles, Pastor Martha Tankard (George), Anita Weatherly, Joyce Bright, Margarette Handy (Larry) and Pastor Angannette Brittingham; brothers, Rodney Weatherly and Fred Weatherly; adopted brother, Charles Burton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The service to celebrate Linda’s life will be held Saturday, July 3, at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mt.
