Linda Wheaton Breedlove, music school co-founder
Linda Wheaton Breedlove died peacefully in her home Saturday, June 13, 2020. She was the wife of Larry A. Breedlove with whom she shared over 20 years of marriage.
Linda was born in Short Hills, N.J., July 3, 1946, the youngest child of Dorothy and Robert Wheaton. She attended Kent Place High School, then Pine Manor College and Ohio Wesleyan College. She loved spending her summers in Weekapaug, R.I. She moved to Milford in 1970 to raise her three sons. Linda was very active in her children’s lives, especially when it came to music. She insisted that they all play an instrument. Linda enjoyed playing the bells at Avenue Methodist Church and co-founded the Delaware Music School in Milford.
Linda was very involved in her community over the years. She was a faithful member of Avenue Methodist Church. She was appointed and served on the Delaware Foster Care Review Board. She participated in the women’s hospital auxiliary. She helped women and families through her work at People’s Place. Linda loved to play tennis, and was a big part of the local tennis community. She helped to coach her son’s high school tennis team.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three sons, Michael Burris and his wife Alicia of Charlottesville, Va., David Burris and his wife Katie of Lewes, and Scott Burris and his wife Kate of Wilmington.; three stepchildren, Andrea Spahr and her husband Charles of Wilmington, Shannon Breedlove of Denver, Colo., and Michael Breedlove and his wife Lisa of Lewes.; a brother, David Wheaton and his wife Kathleen of Tinton Falls, N.J.; and many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Linda is preceded in death by her nephew, Robbie Wheaton, brother Robert Wheaton, and her parents, Dorothy and Robert Wheaton.
Visitation will be held Saturday, June 27, from 9 to 11 a.m., at 420 Kings Hwy., Milford in a COVID-19 sensitive outdoor setting. A Memorial Service will follow for immediate family, officiated by Pastor Wendy Owens Butterworth.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Linda’s name may be made to the Music School of Delaware, Milford Branch, 23 N Walnut St., Milford, DE 19963, or Avenue Methodist Church, 20 N Church St., Milford, DE 19963.
