Literacy Education Assistance Pups reading program celebrates six years

June 8, 2012

Literacy Education Assistance Pups celebrated six years of children's reading programs May 16 at the Rehoboth Beach Public Library. The LEAP teams consist of specially trained dogs and their owners, who visit the Rehoboth library weekly to encourage young readers. Pet therapy dogs offer unconditional attention to readers in a comfortable setting. The group has been visiting the Rehoboth library from September through May and will return again in September to start its seventh year.

In the photo, LEAP volunteers gather to give certificates of appreciation to children's librarian Leslie Johnson and assistant librarian Kelby Kenton. Shown are (l-r) Jackie Rifenbergh, Aubrie Whitcomb, Laura Maiman, Johnson, Carlyn Willis, Kenton, Susan Kazala and Barbara Beatty.
