Lola M. Wood, loved playing bingo

Lola M. Wood, 92, of Lewes, passed away Monday, May 21, 2012, at her home.  She was born in Berlin, Pa., Jan. 8, 1920, daughter of the late Herman and Mary (Tipton) Heffley.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles Wood Jr. in 1968; two brothers:  Donald and Robert Heffley;  and three sisters:  Vera Heffley, Nona Behn and Faye Regan.

Mrs. Wood attended McKinley Technical High School in Washington, D.C.  After graduation she was employed with the A. P. Woodson Oil Company in Washington where she met the love of her life, Charles “Chubby” Wood Jr.  Mrs. Wood also worked with her brother in the family business, Heffley’s Printing & Supplies in Washington.  In 1985 she retired from her position as director of orientation and lock boxes for the Montgomery County Board of Realtors.

Mrs. Wood was an avid bingo player who rarely missed a game.  Bingo made her week fly by!  Mrs. Wood loved cruising around in her PT Cruiser, dabbling in arts and crafts and all who knew her enjoyed her wicked sense of humor.   She loved all animals, especially her canine companion, Shyann.

Mrs. Wood is survived by her daughter, Patricia Linthicum and her husband Roger Sr. of Lewes and Outer Banks, N.C.; three grandchildren:  Kristin Werner and Dave Johnson of Georgetown, Roger Linthicum Jr. and his wife Theresa of Nova Scotia, Canada and Keith Linthicum and Gina Creel of Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, Roy Heffley of Washington; one sister, Mary Lou Koch and her husband Dick of Rehoboth Beach and Bethesda, Md.;  many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends, also her pet, Shyann.

All services are private.  Arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Wood’s honor to:  Safe Haven Animal Sanctuary of Sussex County, P. O. Box 430, Nassau, DE  19969.
