Lord Baltimore Lions donate to Food Bank of Delaware

February 16, 2025

Lord Baltimore Lions Club is beginning its ninth consecutive year of service volunteering at the Food Bank of Delaware in Milford.

Lions Club volunteers cover two shifts per month, every second Monday afternoon and the last Friday morning of the month. Service Project Coordinator John Monahan said the additional shift each month has afforded the club the opportunity to add more volunteers to help the Food Bank address the growing needs of Sussex County residents. He said about 26 different club members have worked a shift or more over the past eight years.

“We have six to eight regular volunteers each visit who work either Friday or Monday, and a few Lions work both monthly shifts. Although long-term volunteers have aged a bit – I am tired at the end of the shift – we all feel good because we know we are helping people.”

During a recent shift, Lord Baltimore Lions volunteers paused to present a $1,000 donation in support of the Food Bank’s lifesaving programs. The donation was a result of club fundraising efforts, with the total amount enhanced significantly through a special grant from the Delaware Lions Foundation.

Combating food insecurity and hunger is a major cause for Lions worldwide. Lord Baltimore Lions also support the Feed My Sheep Program at Mariners Bethel Church in Ocean View, as well as Mariners and other churches in the Southeast Sussex Ministerium that distribute food to families in need every Tuesday afternoon as part of the Frankford Food Distribution Program.

The Lord Baltimore Lions Club is located in Ocean View and serves the communities of Bethany Beach, Clarksville, Dagsboro, Frankford and Millville. For more information, go to lordbaltimorelionsclub.org.
