LRAC House of Hope opens in Lewes

What is Your Voice expands campus with new low-income transitional house
October 13, 2024

Supporters and benefactors gathered in Lewes Sept. 19 to celebrate the opening of LRAC House of Hope, a new low-income transitional safe house geared to help women and children affected by domestic abuse.

Jacqueline Sterbach, president and founder of What is Your Voice, said the shelter is named in honor of Lewes Rehoboth Association of Congregations, which presented her organization with $100,000 to buy the land that now houses the shelter.

LRAC board President the Rev. Bo Gordy-Stith said sales at the organization’s New Life Thrift Shop made the grant possible. The What is Your Voice campus provides a transitional safe house, food pantry, access to community resources and other services to address trauma and break the cycle of domestic violence.

Sterbach credited her husband, retired police officer Walter Sterbach, for compelling the couple to focus on helping victims of domestic violence.

What is Your Voice will celebrate its 10th anniversary in November. For more information, call 302-467-3310 or go to whatisyourvoice.com.
