Main Street in Bridgeville in the late 1800s

July 14, 2020

This antique picture postcard from the late 1800s shows Main Street in downtown Bridgeville on the northwestern side of Sussex County. According to an article on Wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, “Bridgeville was named for a bridge that was built in 1730 over a tributary of the Nanticoke River.”

The town has been the home to at least two prominent American artists: Edward Willia Redfield and Jack Lewis.

Neal “Joe” Boyle donated his extensive collection of postcards to the Delaware Public Archives for enjoyment by future generations.
