Marc Richard Collard, veteran, NSA retiree

Marc Richard Collard, 74, passed away peacefully at home Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. Born Jan. 9, 1950, in Biddeford, Maine, Marc was the son of Aline Berthe (Valliere) Collard and Robert Joseph Collard.

Marc was a proud alumnus of Assumption Preparatory School and went on to earn a bachelor of science degree in sociology from Northeastern University in Boston, Mass. He later obtained a master of science degree in strategic intelligence from the Joint Military Intelligence College. Marc served honorably in the U.S. Army from 1975-81 and then had a distinguished career as a master intelligence analyst with the National Security Agency, a role he held until his retirement in 2007.

Marc was married to his beloved wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Collard, for 49 wonderful years. Together, they shared a love of travel, particularly through Europe and France, creating lasting memories. Marc was deeply interested in following various sports teams, especially the NBA and NFL, and kept a keen eye on current and world events. His passion for learning was also reflected in his love of reading, particularly about U.S. history.

Marc is survived by his wife of 49 years, Elizabeth Collard; his brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Mary Anne Collard of Maine; his brother-in-law, William Nagel of New York; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Aline Berthe (Valliere) Collard and Robert Joseph Collard.

A devoted husband, brother, and friend, Marc will be remembered for his intellect, dedication to service, and his deep love for family. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Funeral services and a celebration of Marc’s life will be announced at a later date.

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family in New York.
