Margaret 'Peggy' Timmons, loved adventure
Peggy Timmons of Dagsboro passed away Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Margaret Ann (Keenan) Timmons was born Aug. 3, 1929, in Passaic, N.J. to Mary Theresa (McLoughlin) and George Aloysius Keenan. She grew up in Clifton, N.J., and graduated from Saint Joseph High School in Paterson, N.J., before earning her bachelor's degree from Mount Saint Vincent College in Riverdale, N.Y. She taught elementary students in Clifton Public School No. 2. In 1954 she married Edgar John Timmons in Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Clifton. They later established their home in Cedar Grove, N.J., where they raised their family.
Peggy especially loved spending summers at their home in Seacrest Beach for over 30 years, surrounded by friends and family. As empty nesters, Peggy and Ed relocated to Belle Meade, N.J. for 15 years, where they made many lifelong friends, and Peggy embarked on her world travels. She was always planning a trip or adventure, and also enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing bridge, quilting, knitting, going to the theater or watching any parade she could find.
In 1998 Peggy and Ed retired to Dagsboro, where Peggy was involved in the Indian River Women’s Club, and continued her traveling, athletic and social activities with her circle of friends.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Edgar J. Timmons; her four children; Brian of Brick, N.J., Maryellen of Savannah, Ga., Sally of Rutland, Vt. and Mark (Lynn) of Cream Ridge, N.J.; and her four beloved grandchildren, Sean, Emma, Kiley and Niki. She is also survived by her brother George of Boca Raton, Fla.; a cousin, niece and nephew.
She lived a long and eventful life, driven by her mantra “You’ve got to do it while the motor is still running!”
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Saturday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m., at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation in Peggy’s memory to the charity of your choice or Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
