The Mariner Middle field hockey team moved to 2-1 on the season as the Vikings scored an 8-0 victory over Sussex Academy Oct. 13 in Georgetown. The Seahawks move to 3-3-1.
Maddie Long and Emily Wells each scored two goals in the contest, while Emmi Swope, Regan Best, Blair Chubb and Leighton Swope each added one goal.
“We have been working on leading passes and carrying the ball with a purpose,” said Mariner head coach Hannah Pepper. “Today, the team was able to put these skills into play, as they passed in front of their teammates to allow them to run onto the ball and make the game faster. We have a lot of leadership from more experienced players, but have brand-new players this season who have improved tremendously and are stepping into their roles on the team as key players. Mariner is excited for our future growth as a team.”
