Mariner volleyball drops a close 2-1 match to Chipman

Mariner to face Beacon Oct. 28
October 24, 2019

The Mariner Middle School volleyball team cut it uncomfortably close in the first set, falling 25-22, then won the second set 25-17 to set up an intense run at the 7-1 Chipman Middle squad Oct. 23. But the Vikings fell to the Spartans 15-9 in the third to drop to 5-4 on the season.

“This team is resilient and tough,” said Mariner head coach Alison Botti. “From the aces we serve to the perfect serve-receive passes, sets and spikes, this team works hard to get three contacts every play. Jules Souder and Lily Joyce led the team with fabulous sets. Marleigh Blank and Leah Sheridan rocked the ball with spikes, and Ada Spells, Sasha Tigue, and Amelia Phelps ran the middle. Ava Calciano and Maggie Minto are the steady passers from the back row and stellar servers. I’m going to miss this crew.”

The Vikings will finish up regular-season play Monday, Oct. 28, against Beacon Middle School.
