Mark Lofland Davis II, veteran, retired educator

Mark Lofland Davis II, 95, died at his home in Ellendale Tuesday, July 2, after a brief illness, with his wife of 70 years at his side.

Mark grew up in Milford. In 1948, he served in the U.S. Army. In 1966, he settled on a farm in Ellendale, where he raised Dexter cattle, a heritage breed. He taught general science at Milford Middle School for eight years followed by 17 years as vice principal and youth advisor at Sussex County Vocational Technical High School, retiring in 1991. Following retirement, he joined the firm of Dean Whitter Reynolds as a financial advisor for five years. Never one to be inactive, Mark established a small business in professional photography and was a member of the Delaware Professional Photographers. He was a member of the American Mustang and Burro Association for many years and acting CEO for eight years. In addition, he served as a member of the First State Resource Conservation and Development Council for over 50 years. He was a member of American Radio Relay League and the Irish Society of Delaware.

Mark is survived by his wife, Marjorie C. Davis of Ellendale; a sister, Rachele Davis Dakos of Tucson, Ariz.; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at noon, Friday, July 26, at Ellendale Fire Hall, 302 Main St., Ellendale.

The family requests that no flowers be sent, but donations may be made in Mark’s memory to Ellendale Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 5, Ellendale, DE 19941.
