Masters week is here!

April 11, 2025

It’s amazing how fast this year is going by. It’s already Masters week. This is supposed to be the unofficial beginning of spring, but in Delaware it is still freezing cold. The weather in Augusta is supposed to be very nice over the weekend – temperatures in the upper 60s and 70s with constant sunshine during the day.

I think this is Rory McIlroy’s best chance yet to win the career Grand Slam. He has been playing very well this season, and the course is going to play very long due to almost 2 inches of rain on Monday. Defending champion Scottie Scheffler is in the mix. He shot a four-under 68 in the first round. He is trying to become the second golfer in history to win the Masters three of the last four years. Jack Nicklaus won in 1963, 1965 and 1966. England's Justin Rose is winning at 7 under par for the first round. If he is able to win, I believe he would be the second-oldest Masters champion at age 44, and he would probably make the Hall of Fame because this would be his second major along with the 2013 US Open. I think the winning score is going to be between 15 and 20 under par because of the great weather for all four days.

The University of Florida and University of Connecticut won their respective March Madness tournaments. Florida had a lot more close games in the men’s tournament than Connecticut did in the women’s event. Florida won their third men’s basketball championship. They had two very close calls in the tournament against the men from Connecticut in the third round, which they won by single digits, and in the finals against Houston, where they won 65-63. Houston made it to the the final for the third time in school history. Unfortunately for them, they still haven’t won.

On the women’s side, the University of Connecticut won their record 12th national championship. They were a No. 2 seed in the tournament, but they dominated all six of their games, winning by double digits, including the final against defending champion South Carolina. I don’t think this is going to be Connecticut's last national championship, either, because they have some very good underclass women who are going to be there for at least two more years. South Carolina is also going to be a continuing powerhouse as well!
