The newly formed Brain Cancer Answer Foundation held its inaugural McGuiness Memorial Golf Tournament and Auction Oct. 15-16 at Kings Creek Country Club in Rehoboth Beach. The tournament is named in memory of Nicholas McGuiness, who died of a malignant brain tumor in 2022.
Brain Cancer Answer Foundation is a nonprofit charity organized by friends of the McGuiness family together with Elizabeth McGuiness. Its mission is to heighten awareness of brain tumors, and raise funds for brain tumor research and new treatments in search of a cure. Foundation President Christine Emery said when organizers set out to start the tourney, they hoped the inaugural event would raise $25,000. As of Oct. 25, they had tallied $101,000.
“The community has shown tremendous support for this event,” said Emery. “The tournament sold out June 1. We had a huge auction; it was really impressive how the community and Kings Creek turned out. It’s just more than we’d ever envisioned. The support we received is just so amazing.”
Other board members include Elizabeth McGuiness, vice president; Stephanie Roash, secretary; and Marie Murray, treasurer. Emery said Judy Rayner provided invaluable help with the auction.
Emery said the board wishes to thank each and every donor for their contributions to Nicholas’ memory and this new nonprofit venture. For more information on the Brain Cancer Answer Foundation, go to braincanceranswer.org.
