While I have never been a big follower of the local, much less national, political scene, I do have a good sense for the kind of person I want to represent me and speak to the important issues of the day on my behalf. I want someone with intelligence and work ethic balanced with humility, who demonstrates the heart of a true public servant.
In the race for the Rehoboth-area House of Representatives seat, it is becoming obvious due to the strength and positive momentum of her campaign that the public servant going to Dover will be Kathy McGuiness. Like many, her race has drawn my attention due to recent events in her life and, candidly, I wanted to see how tough and focused she could be in this campaign considering the now obviously overzealous attacks that were directed at her in the past.
Like many who now support her, the choice has become clear, as her opponents lack both experience and the ability to put past grudges and egos behind them, and move forward to address the serious challenges our state and region face.
Kathy isn’t running for office to settle scores; she’s running for all of us who have seen struggles and face them head-on to fight another day and make this place we call home better for all of us. A great example is her work with Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf advocating for women's rights, education and investing in the local infrastructure.
Vote for Kathy McGuiness in the Democratic primary for the 14th District House race Tuesday, Sept. 10. Better yet, vote early in person or by absentee ballot for the positive voice we need for the Cape Region.
