Men charged in Seaford dog fight
Two Delaware men and three from Maryland face animal cruelty charges after police say they were fighting dogs Jan. 8 at a Seaford residence.
Delaware State Police and officers with the Office of Animal Welfare were called about 2 p.m. to a home in the 26000 block of Lonesome Road about suspicious activity. Police found several people actively running a dog fight, said Sr. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police.
Fourteen dogs were rescued from the property, DeMalto said, and police arrested Samuel Foreman, 44, of Whaleyville, Md.; Timothy Whaley, 44, of Salisbury, Md.; Bryon Briddell, 35, of Berlin, Md.; Kevin Land, 47, of Seaford; and Glenn White, 36, of Wilmington.
They were charged with felony own, possess, keep or use of animal for fighting; felony present at animal fighting, felony animal cruelty and resisting arrest.
All five were committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, but later released on $18,000 secured bond. Each of the defendants faces the possibility of up to three years in prison for animal cruelty, a class F felony, and up to a five-year sentence for animal fighting, a class E felony.
