Mildred D. Albert, active in her church
Mildred D. Albert, 92, of Harbeson passed away peacefully Sunday, May 27, 2018, surrounded by her loving family at her home.
Mildred was born in Georgetown Feb. 28, 1926, to Lloyd Earl Davidson and Edna (Betts) Davidson. She worked on the family farm as a teenager. Upon graduation from Georgetown High School in 1944 as the class treasurer, she worked for six years during World War II at Fort Miles in the civilian payroll office. It was there that she met her husband of 69 years, Glen E. Albert, a career soldier from Winnsboro, La. They traveled the world for 30 years raising their five children.
During this time, Mildred spent many hours volunteering on all of the bases through the Army Community Service Program, assisting families in transition and those in need by running base thrift shops. After military retirement in 1973, they returned to the Harbeson farmhouse.
She was a very active member of the Harbeson United Methodist Church. Over the years she served in many capacities, including financial secretary, UMW president, board member, and, up until her death, membership secretary.
Mildred and Glen together delivered Meals on Wheels for 20 years, and received several awards for their dedication to their community. In her later years, she enjoyed reading novels and using her computer to print the weekly church bulletins, keep up with world news and play games. She also looked forward to her class reunions and monthly brunches with her classmates.
Mildred is preceded in death by her parents; her brother Robert Davidson; her sister Helen Flood; and her grandson Cory Burton.
She is survived by her husband, Glen Albert; sisters, Kathryn Webb of Milford and Nancy Joseph of Lewes; her children, James Albert and wife Shirley of Maryland, Susan Eaton and husband Clem of Indiana, Glenda Fischer and husband Larry of Virginia, Gary Albert and wife Reggie of New Jersey and Becky Burton and husband Andy of Millsboro.
