Milford field hockey downs Concord 1-0 in OT

Plays Delmar Saturday, Nov. 12
November 11, 2016

The Milford Buccaneers field hockey team dominated the Concord Raiders Nov. 9, but could not get the ball past Concord senior goalie Anya Marshall. Milford’s Rajene Bowe broke away and dribbled the field and put the ball into the cage at 7:57 of overtime to send the Bucs to the second round of the DIAA Tournament.

“Going into overtime, I tried not to lose my composure as a coach,” said Milford head coach Andrea Fleming. “But inside I was a little nervous. I know these girls are resilient, and I know how much the girls wanted this win, so it was huge for them. It was just a big team win. They just kept going and going and going. When you have that many shots and don’t score, it can be very frustrating, but they were able to regain their composure and score in overtime.”

“It was a lot of pressure on the team,” said junior captain Darby Brennan. “We had to keep composed and the ball would get in the goal.”

“We knew we were dominating the game,” said Milford senior attack Rajene Bowe. “We had to think that we were not done. We have eight seniors and we did not want it to finish here. We just had to dig deep.”

The Bucs travel to Delmar Saturday, Nov 12 for a 11 a.m. start against the Wildcats.
