A Millsboro man faces multiple charges after he led police on a chase in a stolen car Sept. 30, before abandoning it in Milton.

Members of the Sussex County Governor’s Task Force were on patrol at 6:45 p.m. on Route 9 near Park Avenue in Georgetown when they spotted a gray Chevrolet Camaro reported stolen during a Sept. 29 robbery, police said.

Troopers pulled the car over on Shingle Point Road and attempted to contact the driver, but he sped away. During the pursuit, police said, the Camaro drove recklessly and at a high rate of speed on several area streets and roads. Troopers, assisted by Milton Police Department, lost sight of the Camaro but found it unoccupied on North Park Avenue in Milton after stop sticks were successfully deployed.

After searching the area with a Milford Police Department K-9, police said they found the driver, Terence Savage, 36, and he was taken into custody without incident. During the search for Savage, police said they found a backpack containing a loaded .40-caliber handgun with an obliterated serial number. Police said they also found 3.94 grams of cocaine on Savage.

Savage was taken to Troop 4, where he was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent felony, receiving stolen property, and other weapon, drug and traffic charges. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $43,100 cash bond.
