Millsboro man faces 10th DUI
A Millsboro man faces his 10th driving under the influence charge after a crash March 31 in Millsboro.
Delaware State Police responded to Main Street at 11:19 a.m. after a white Dodge Ram ran into a fence, said Sgt. Cpl. Leonard DeMalto of the Delaware State Police. The driver, Charles Smith, 54, was trying to flee the scene on foot, but troopers found him walking just south of the collision scene, DeMalto said. Upon contact, he said, troopers immediately detected an odor of alcoholic beverages, and they conducted a DUI investigation.
A computer inquiry revealed that Smith’s driver’s license was revoked and he had been arrested for nine prior DUI offenses. Smith was taken into custody and transported to Troop 4 where he was charged with felony DUI, leaving the scene of a property collision accident, driving while suspended or revoked, and other traffic charges. Smith was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $15,500 cash bond.
