Milton author’s Cold War spy novel launch event set Oct. 12
Author Karl Wegener, a Milton resident and former intelligence analyst, has published his second novel, “Operation Nightfall: The Web of Spies.”
Set in Poland in 1948 and weaves a tale of betrayal, survival and harrowing escape. A launch event is set from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, at Caprichos Books, 11310 Manklin Creek Road, Unit 4, Ocean Pines, Md. Wegener will discuss the history that inspired the story in short presentation, “When the Cold War Became Hot.” He’ll also read an excerpt from the novel, answer questions and sign books.
Building on Wegener’s reputation for creating intricate spy stories, “Operation Nightfall” follows his 2022 debut, “Grown Men Cry Out at Night.” For the second book, Wegener drew inspiration from the real events of the Polish anti-communist insurgency and the notorious Cambridge Five spy scandal. The book also pays tribute to lesser-known British intelligence efforts to challenge Soviet dominance in Eastern Europe.
In a personal triumph, Wegener completed the novel while battling stage IV cancer, a journey that has profoundly shaped his outlook on life and recovery.
