The fifth-grade Lighthouse Team members at Milton Elementary worked together to organize and advertise a school-wide food drive for a week in November.
During the drive, each of the homerooms collected items such as canned goods, cereals, pasta and cereal bars, among other needs. The Lighthouse Team leaders then collected and counted the items that had been donated.
Representatives from the Milton Community Food Pantry picked up the donations Nov. 18. Overall, MES students collected close to 3,000 food items, which is the largest donation the pantry had ever received.
The organization presented the students with a certificate of recognition for their hard work.
