A student was found in possession of a Taser at Milton Elementary Feb. 3, according to a statement sent by Principal Clara Conn to families and staff.
The notification stated that upon arrival at school, students immediately reported that a classmate claimed to have brought a Taser with them to school.
“The student was immediately addressed by Milton Elementary administrators, and a search of their backpack produced a Taser, as it had been reported, and was removed from their possession,” the statement said.
The school resource officer and parents/guardians of those involved were notified. The statement thanked students for reporting the incident and asked parents to reinforce with their children the importance of reporting any such incident.
In a Feb. 6 email, Superintendent Bob Fulton said student and staff safety is the district’s most important responsibility.
“Creating a school and district climate based on trust and open communication between all groups involved is of the utmost importance to us,” Fulton said.
