Milton Lions Club marks 75 years of service

March 22, 2021

Milton Lions Club acknowledged its 75th anniversary Feb. 8. The club’s charter date was March 23, 1939. During World War II, the club took a hiatus as members were serving the war effort. Milton Lions Club rechartered in 1946, sponsored by Laurel Lions Club.

Seven of the 15 original member names appear on both charters. They are Clyde Betts, C. James Johnson, David King, H. Vernon Needles, Dr. William Newland, Arthur H. Wagamon and William B. Wagamon Jr.

Milton Lions Club has 43 members and meets at 6:30 p.m., the second Monday of the month at Rookery South.

Faithfully following the Lions’ motto We Serve, the club actively supports all community events, conducts sight and hearing projects, builds and installs handicapped ramps, recycles used eyeglasses, lends hospital equipment and runs the Milton Clipper Express.
