Members of the Milton Little League 9-10 and 11-12 teams, who recently clinched state championships, were recognized for their success during a Milton Town Council meeting Aug. 1.
“This is an amazing feat because I don’t think ever in history has a town won both the 9-10 and 11-12 tournaments in the same year,” said coach Paris Mitchell. “And coupled with the fact that Milton is definitely one of the smallest towns’ Little Leagues in the state, it’s just an amazing accomplishment that these boys have done.”
During the meeting, the Milton Community Foundation donated $500 to the teams to help support their trips to Connecticut and Rhode Island to compete in regional tournaments. The Town of Milton also passed a resolution to donate $500 to the teams to help fund their travels.
“We are so proud of all of you,” said Councilwoman Esthelda Parker-Selby. “You guys make me feel good to see Milton on your shirts. Keep it up!”
Councilman Kevin Kelly, who had a chance to meet many of the young baseball players before the meeting, agreed.
“If they are half the players that they are young men, they have nothing to worry about,” he said.
