The Cape boys’ lacrosse team won an important game at Tower Hill 8-4 May 5, behind a hat trick from Patrick Monigle and stellar goaltending from Brendan Kane.
Monigle gave the Vikings pop from the top, rolling down from midfield and putting three balls into the net.
Cape improved to 9-2 on the season, with both losses coming in low-scoring one-goal games to Appoquinimink 7-6 April 7 and Caesar Rodney 6-5 May 3.
The Vikings got a pair of goals from Luke D’Ambrogi and single goals from Jake Brown, Ethan Ghabra and Brock Maloomian.
Cape played the game without injured long pole Brooks Buck, who’s out with a broken hand, and the Vikings played the second half minus Holden Kammerer, who injured his wrist diving for a loose ball. Kammerer was taken for X-rays, which were inconclusive, and his future status remains uncertain.
Jamie Spruance and Jack Okoniewski each scored two goals for Tower Hill. Goalie Michael Gianforcaro was credited with 12 saves.
Tower Hill dropped to 6-4 on the season.
Tower Hill ccoach Brad duPont was presented with a plaque before the game by Athletic Director Jack Holloway noting his 200th career victory in a previous win over Saint Mark’s. DuPont is the only head coach of lacrosse in the history of Tower Hill.
Cape plays at Sussex Tech Wednesday, May 10, then hosts Salesianum Friday, May 12, at 7 p.m.
