More than horror at All Hallows Farm
It's not just about the horror anymore. Sure, there will be screams galore at night, but All Hallows Farm near Georgetown has been transformed to provide activities for children and families during the day.
Those activities include a petting zoo, racing pigs, large playground, 40-by-60-foot jumping pillow, train ride, carnival games, gem mining, stores, refreshments, face painting and entertainment. Later in the season a hayride and pumpkin patch with carving and painting will be added.
Picnic tables will allow families to sit down and take their time. “We want this to be a destination for families,” Turner said. “There is nothing scary about the daytime events. The haunted section is completely separate, and takes place only at night.”
Turner and Mike Milliken, both of Seaford, are attraction managers who have taken on the task of retooling the farm.
All Hallows Farm will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays starting Saturday, Sept. 8, through Sunday, Nov. 4. Schools can schedule field trips on Fridays. The cost will be $12 for a single all-day admission or $35 for family of four. Children under 3 will be admitted free of charge.
The haunt has undergone a dramatic transformation, or evolution as it's called on the website. With a new name, Screams at the Beach, the town of All Hallows has been expanded as have the haunted houses and woods and field areas. Turner said the walking trail is now about a mile long. Those who are brave enough can also take a hayride.
Visitors to Screams at the Beach will traverse the town as well as House of Hallows, Pandemonium, Cemetery of Sorrows, Escape the Crimson Woods and Abomination Acres. Milliken said visitors can choose one attraction at a time instead of waiting in line. Tickets will be punched out as each person finishes a specific area.
“It will take at least 15 to 20 minutes to go though each attraction,” Turner said.
Admission to Screams at the Beach will be $25, but event organizers are in the process of distributing more than 10,000 coupons offering $5 off admission to local businesses.
The haunted event will take place from 7 p.m. until the last victims leave on Fridays and Saturdays starting Friday, Sept. 28, and ending Tuesday, Oct. 30.
Interviews were held in July with 80 actors and employees hired for both events.
