The Music School of Delaware expands with Seaford location

Transition expands reach of musical instruction and experiences
March 2, 2023

The Music School of Delaware announced the addition of the Seaford Satellite site to its statewide locations available for private lesson instruction, beginner classes and more.

Under an agreement with Seaford Music and Education Institute in December 2022, Howard Greene handed over operations of the flourishing music program he founded to the music school. The planned transition aims to further the benefits to current students and bring music instruction and experiences to more people.

Greene has played a vital role in the transition. “As owner of Seaford Music and Education Institute for the past four years, I am pleased to announce that the Music School of Delaware has agreed to take over operation of the institute,” he said. “I will remain closely involved as a key faculty member and advisor to the music school's Mary Jane Vanvestraut. It is a pleasure to work with her. The music school was founded in 1924 and serves residents of Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey. It is a statewide, nationally accredited community music school. This is an exciting step, and I'm confident it will be good for the Seaford community.”

Mary Jane Vanvestraut was recently appointed associate dean, a promotion from her initial position as Milford branch director for the Music School of Delaware. She was a pioneer in orchestrating the new arrangements and has been working in tandem with Greene to ensure a smooth transition as well as growth of music education in the Seaford area.

Vanvestraut said, “I am beyond thrilled to be working with Howard to keep music accessible and excellent for all in the Seaford community. The Music School of Delaware is continuing this mission by offering financial support and scholarships to students, increasing the studios of the current teachers, adding early childhood classes, summer programs and ensembles, and growing this new site with additional students and faculty members. We are grateful to Howard for the creation of his institute, and we are proud to be continuing his legacy in the same location, now the Seaford Satellite of the Music School of Delaware.”

The Seaford Satellite can be found at 308 E. Stein Highway, Seaford.
