The Maj. Nathaniel Mitchell Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution welcomed new members Feb. 11 during its monthly meeting in Georgetown.
Chapter Chaplain Karen Parker installed newly transferred members Margie Wallace and Barbara Crowell.
The chapter also had a visit from local historian Karl Haller, portraying Abe Lincoln. Haller has the natural appearance of Lincoln and has performed the role more than 150 times on the Eastern Shore since 1986. He is the longest-practicing lawyer in Sussex County, having been in practice for 54 years. Locals and visitors may even have spotted Lincoln walking around Georgetown a few times. Chapter members learned about Lincoln’s most famous case as a lawyer, the Effie Afton case.
Maj. Nathaniel Mitchel Chapter invites all prospective members to join its monthly meeting and take part in doing volunteer work dedicated to patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education for children. Any woman over 18, regardless of race, religion or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership.
DAR volunteers provide guidance and assistance with prospective members’ first steps into the world of genealogy.
