New endocrinologist joins Bayhealth Dover practice
As more Delawareans struggle with diabetes and other hormone-related disorders, Bayhealth is expanding its endocrinology team to better meet patients’ needs.
Endocrinologist Hajira Amir, MD, is the newest physician in the Bayhealth Endocrinology Dover practice. She joins Tadele Desalew, MD, and Hira Shakeel, MD.
Amir is welcoming new patients.
The practice is part of Bayhealth Medical Group, a partnership of highly trained physicians and advanced practice clinicians, their staff, and an administrative support team that operates medical offices throughout central and southern Delaware.
“More than one in 10 Delawareans have type 1 or type 2 diabetes. At Bayhealth we’re committed to strengthening access to the high-quality care that helps our community members live better with this disease,” said Lawrence Ward, MD, MPH, FACP., Bayhealth vice president of physician services and clinical integration. “We’re very pleased to add Dr. Amir to our endocrinology team. She not only provides diabetes care, but also has expertise in treating many different hormone-related conditions, such as thyroid, adrenal and pituitary disorders, and polycystic ovary syndrome or PCOS, a common cause of infertility in women.”
Before coming to Bayhealth, Amir completed an endocrinology fellowship at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai Beth Israel, a teaching hospital in Manhattan. It is part of the Mount Sinai health system, one of the largest and most comprehensive in the nation. Amir has a medical degree from Ayub Medical College in Abbottabad, Pakistan. She completed an internal medicine residency at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City.
Bayhealth offers other resources to support patients with diabetes. Recognized by the American Diabetes Association, Bayhealth’s Diabetes Wellness Center is staffed by a team of diabetes educators and is designed to help people make necessary changes so they can self-manage their diabetes and improve their daily living. Bayhealth also has a diabetes support group open to any community members.
Amir sees patients at the Bayhealth Endocrinology Dover practice at 1058 S. Governors Ave., Suite 101, Dover. To make an appointment, call 302-401-1500.
