New physician joins Dedicated to Women
Dedicated to Women announced that Andrew Ward, MD, has joined the practice and is seeing patients in the Dover office.
Ward comes to Dedicated to Women from Bayhealth Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
Originally from Toms River, N.J., Ward is the youngest of four children, and the only member of his family to pursue a career in medicine. Becoming a doctor was a goal he had had since very early in childhood. He attended medical school at Temple University School of Medicine, Philadelphia, and completed his residency at Christiana Care Health System, Newark, in obstetrics and gynecology. He attended fellowship at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, Philadelphia, in maternal-fetal medicine.
Ward said he feels it is imperative for a physician to provide a detailed assessment of each pregnancy and be an integral part of its ongoing management. He stresses the importance of shared decision-making between the patient and her primary obstetrical providers.
Outside of medicine, Ward and his partner Lisa enjoy an active, and sometimes hectic, lifestyle of their own. They have four children and two golden retrievers. He enjoys reading, drinking coffee, music and skiing.
Ward’s areas of expertise include: detailed fetal ultrasound; medical complications of pregnancy such as high blood pressure, diabetes, or thyroid disorders; maternal mental health; fetal well-being; exercise in pregnancy; preterm birth prevention; genetic screening and counseling; and amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling.
