Jan. 8 funeral may cause delays
The Delaware Department of Transportation is alerting motorists to anticipate delays for the funeral services of Indian River Volunteer Firefighter Lt. Jason M. Faulkner Sr. Tuesday, Jan. 8.

The viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until noon at Mary Mother of Peace Church, 30839 Mount Joy Road near Millsboro. Mass will begin at noon at the church. Mount Joy Road between Route 24/John J. Williams Highway and Cordey Road will be closed between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and approximately 1 p.m. After Mass, the processional services will be held at the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, Station 2, 32628 Oak Orchard Road near Millsboro.

After leaving the church, travel east onto Route 24/John J. Williams Highway to Banks Road. Turn right onto Banks Road and travel to the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company, Station 2 for Last Call. The Interment Services will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way in Millsboro. After the Interment Services, a reception will be held at the Indian River Volunteer Fire Company. In anticipation of possible delays in the area, DelDOT’s Transportation Management Center will be monitoring traffic via radio and cameras along the route. 

Lewes to discuss Brittingham parcel Jan. 8
The Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at city hall. The group will review the plan for Lewes Waterfront Preserve, a planned 90-unit villa community on the 34-acre Brittingham property along New Road. The commission will also review a plan for a subdivision at the corner of Anglers Road and Market Street. In both cases, the commission is tasked with commenting on existing or proposed open space and the effect on adjacent park areas or natural features within the city. Lewes historic preservation to meet Jan. 8
The Lewes Historic Preservation Commission will meet at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at city hall. The group will consider a request to demolish an outbuilding at 142 Kings Highway and construct a shed in its place. The commission will also consider a request to replace existing windows with vinyl replacement inserts at 107 Beebe Ave. Existing sills and exterior trim will remain. For more information, call 302-645-7777.

Lewes ethics board to meet Jan. 8
The Lewes Board of Ethics will meet at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 8, at city hall to discuss amended code of conduct. For more information, call city hall at 302-645-7777.

Milton Water Committee to meet Jan. 9
Milton Water Committee will meet at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Milton library to review the progress of the town’s three water infrastructure projects. The town is working on a new water main connecting from Federal Street to Wagamon’s West Shores, as well as a new well and treatment plant at Shipbuilder’s Village.

The town is also conducting water main improvements in the area of Atlantic Street and Chestnut Street. The committee will also review its budget, water meter placements and hear the Public Works supervisor’s report.

Milton land committee to meet Jan. 9
The Milton Water Infrastructure Land Acquisition Committee will meet at 2:45 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 9, at Milton library. The committee will hold an executive session to discuss preliminary land acquisition.

Sussex County P&Z meeting is Jan. 10
Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda is a C-2 medium commercial district rezoning application filed by Four C’s Property LLC for a half-acre parcel at the intersection of New Road and Nassau Road, Lewes. Cape Henlopen school board to hold retreat Jan. 10
Cape Henlopen school board will hold a retreat at 5 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at the district office. Presentations and discussions will be held on budget prioritization, strategic planning and communication protocol, and the board orientation manual.

Lewes parking committees to meet  Jan. 10
Lewes’ two parking committees will hold a combined meeting at 8:30 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at city hall. They will discuss each committee’s report – beach parking and downtown parking – including short- and long-term recommendations. For details, call 302-645-7777.

Lewes workshop on density calculations set Jan. 10
Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 10, at city hall to discuss the allowable density for development as it relates to wetlands. Council will review an ordinance recently passed by Sussex County Council, review the city’s calculation of permitted density in the annexation zones, discuss the city’s existing zoning code provisions related to wetlands and evaluate possible wetland exemptions from yield calculations in annexation zones. Rehoboth tree advisory committee to meet Jan. 11
The Rehoboth Beach Mayor’s Advisory Committee on Trees has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 11, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda includes draft presentation on 2019 priorities and discussion about Arbor Day, April 26. Rehoboth planning commission to meet Jan. 11
The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission has scheduled a meeting for 3 p.m., Friday, Jan. 11, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda includes a site-plan review for a four-story hotel at the corner of Rehoboth Avenue and State Road, and an update on the 2020 comprehensive development plan. Henlopen Acres board to meet Jan. 11
The Henlopen Acres Board of Commissioners has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, Jan. 11, in the town hall, 104 Tidewaters.
The agenda calls for discussion of a stormwater project on Tidewaters, appointment of a member to the board of adjustment, review and possible approval of audited financial statements, a discussion and possible action on the investment policy and a presentation on a Henlopen Acres book.
