Dewey town council to meet April 25
The Dewey Beach Town Council has a packed agenda for its meeting at 3 p.m., Friday, April 25, at the lifesaving station.
The council will discuss and possibly vote on a resolution to approve a bid submission to secure funding for construction of its new town hall and public safety facility.
Other discussion items include several proposed conditional-use ordinances, a proposed ordinance to amend the accommodations tax remittance procedures, a proposed resolution to approve purchase of a replacement vehicle for Dewey Beach Police and a recommendation from the climate change committee regarding a town resiliency plan.

Community Resource Day set April 26
The Making A Difference Foundation will hold its second annual Community Resource Day from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at Angola Estates Clubhouse, Lewes. Several organizations will be on site, including Beebe Medical Center offering free health screenings, Delaware State Police, Food Bank of Delaware, CERT and Coastal Bath, as well as mental health professionals and landscape companies. Radio station 101.7 will provide live music inside and out. Uncle B’s Kitchen will serve up meals for those in attendance. Free face painting and moon bounce will be available from noon to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.
Free health screenings set April 26
Beebe Healthcare team members will offer free screenings for bone density, blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose and body mass index at the Bayside Fitness spring fling set from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at 34814 Long Neck Road, Millsboro.
Lewes BPW to collect hazardous waste
The Lewes Board of Public Works will hold a hazardous waste collection from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at 227 Schley Ave.

Lewes police to hold drug take back event
As part of National Drug Take Back Day, the Lewes Police Department will collect unwanted medications from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at the Lewes maintenance building, 218 Schley Ave.

Lewes to hold shredding event
The City of Lewes will hold a shredding event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 26, at the Lewes maintenance building, 218 Schley Ave.

UUSD to meet April 27
The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will hold a service at 10 a.m., Sunday, April 27, with “A Call for Compassion: Second Chances in the First State” as the topic. Guest speaker Dr. Tanya Whittle said, “Learn about the challenges facing those who re-enter society after incarceration. What actions can people take when confronting issues with the criminal legal system?” A socio-legal scholar and criminal justice reform advocate, Whittle will discuss problems with mass incarceration, systemic reform and the challenges of meeting probation terms. Whittle is director of policy at the Delaware Center for Justice, and she facilitates Inside-Out Prison Exchange Program courses within Delaware correctional facilities on behalf of the University of Delaware’s Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice. Lewes council, BPW to hold join meeting
Lewes Mayor and City Council and the Lewes Board of Public Works will hold a joint meeting at 1 p.m., Monday, April 28, at the Rollins Center.
The agenda includes an update from the ad hoc steering committee regarding the municipal complex at the Army Reserve Center.

Lewes council to hold public hearing
Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold a public hearing at 5:30 p.m., Monday, April 28, at the Rollins Center.
The panel will take comments on a waiver request for the size of piping at the Carriage House and on a proposed meadow ordinance.

Rehoboth board of adjustment to meet
The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment will meet at 1:30 p.m., Monday, April 28, at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda includes four hearings. The first is for the property at 57 Columbia Ave. and concerns a variance request related to side-yard set backs for a sliding pool cover.
The second is for the property at 1001 Scarborough Ave. Ext. and is an appeal of a building inspector’s decision related to interpretation of the term public street.
The third is for the property at 16 Hickman St. and is a request for variances related to lot coverage in residential districts and floor-area ratio that would permit the removal and reconstruction of a three-story tower.
The fourth is for the property at 17 Baltimore Ave. and is a request for variances related to the definition of loading berths.

Possums open directors’ interest meeting set April 30
Possum Point Players will conduct an open meeting for prospective directors at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, at Possum Hall, 441 Old Laurel Road, Georgetown. Anyone interested in learning about directing shows at Possum Point Players is invited to attend. Logan Hunter, director liaison, and Andrew Peters, director selection committee member, are the organizers.
“We will be available to answer any questions prospective applicants have about the application or interview process,” said Hunter. “The committee is seeking innovative storytellers of all experience levels.” The event is intended to answer questions about Possums’ selection process and directing. Volunteer training set May 3 for shorebird nest monitors
The Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control is seeking volunteers to help protect Delaware’s beach-nesting birds. A training session led by Division of Fish and Wildlife staff will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, May 3, at the Cape Henlopen State Park Officer’s Club. Stationed on the boundaries of the birds’ nesting areas, volunteers explain to beachgoers the importance of closing sections of the beach to prevent human disturbance and help increase the nesting success of the birds, which include piping plovers and American oystercatchers. If weather and time permit, the volunteer training group will visit the Point at Cape Henlopen to look for piping plovers and other shorebirds on the tidal flats. Binoculars will be available for use, but volunteers are encouraged to bring their own.
Tanger Outlets to celebrate mothers with free event May 3
Tanger Outlets will celebrate mothers with its Spring in Bloom event set for 12 to 3 p.m., Saturday, May 3, at Tanger Rehoboth Beach Seaside, between Ulta Beauty and Federal Beverage Company, 36470 Seaside Outlet Drive, Rehoboth Beach.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will include glam sessions, sugar scrub making, a bouquet bar, giveaways and more. Spring in Bloom coincides with Tanger Deal Days, held from Thursday, May 1 to Wednesday, May 21.
Becker Morgan Group recognized for library architecture
Becker Morgan Group recently announced it was ranked 13th among the top 60 public library architecture companies in Building Design + Construction’s Giants 400 Report, showcasing the nation’s leading architecture and engineering firms.
Recent library projects by Becker Morgan Group that influenced this ranking include the newly completed public libraries in Selbyville and Harrington, along with renovations and additions to Kent Island Library in Maryland. Nearing completion is the new Duck Creek Regional Library in Smyrna, and the design process for renovations to the downtown Rehoboth Beach Public Library is ongoing. A number of these libraries have been recipients of design awards.
