Meeting set June 13 on CHSP projects

Delaware’s Division of Parks and Recreation will host a public community meeting from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Monday, June 13, at the Cape Henlopen State Park Officer’s Club. It will feature information stations highlighting capital projects along with proposed planning efforts to improve the park’s amenities, and conserve Cape Henlopen’s natural and cultural resources.

Division staff will be available to discuss park improvements and gather public input on topics including the Biden Environmental Education Center, campground expansion, Fort Miles Museum and Historical Area, park office, trail system, utility upgrades, bathrooms and food service amenities.

Lewes Mayor, council to meet June 13

Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 13, at city hall and via Zoom.

Officials will make a Juneteenth proclamation and offer a presentation for Jim Bachman’s retirement from the Lewes Police Department.

Mayor and city council will discuss ARPA funding requests from Lewes Fire Department and Family Promise of Southern Delaware, and may vote to seek financing for earthen berms recommended by the W. Cedar Street Flood Mitigation Study. Council will discuss and possibly vote on whether to purchase the property at 203 E. Savannah Road.

Under new business, council will discuss Fourth of July events.

Sussex council awards nonprofit grants

Sussex County Council awarded the following grants during its June 7 meeting: $2,000 to Children's Beach House in Lewes for its youth development program; $3,000 to Millsboro Historical Society for maintenance of the Jacob Godwin School; $2,500 to Greater Georgetown Chamber of Commerce for its Pathways to Aviation program for middle school and high school students; a $1,130 youth grant to Rehoboth Summer Children's Theatre for its summer programs; and $3,895 to Town of Millsboro and the police department for an electric Interceptor power bicycle. During its May 24 meeting: $1,000 to Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra Society for program expansion in Rehoboth Beach; $2,000 to Nanticoke River Arts Council for general operations expenses at Gallery 107; and $2,000 to Lewes Fire Department for its drone program. During its May 17 meeting: $2,000 to City of Seaford for its 27th annual Nanticoke Riverfest on Saturday, July 9; and $5,000 to Grace-N-Mercy Ministries to cover operating costs for a summer camp program.

Sussex council meeting on June 14

Sussex County Council will meet at 12:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 14, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda are several public hearings including conditional-use applications for a 351-acre solar farm near Milford and for the addition of 30 units to the Coastal Tide Apartments complex.

Dewey BOA hearing set for June 13

The Dewey Beach Board of Adjustment will hold a meeting and public hearing at 6 p.m., Monday, June 13, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave.

A public hearing will be held on requests for variances and special exceptions, and to appeal a decision of the town building official regarding a property at 126 Bellevue St., the Bay Resort Hotel. The full agenda and meeting link are available at townofdeweybeach.com.

Dewey climate change committee to meet

The Dewey Beach Climate Change Committee will meet virtually at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 11.

Inland Bays to host June 14 talk

The Inland Bays Foundation will host a presentation by Delaware Law School of Widener University professor Ken Kristl, titled “Effective Environmental Advocacy: Zoning in the Bigger Picture” from 6 to 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 14, at the Indian River Senior Center, 214 Irons Ave., Millsboro.

DMHOA general meeting set June 27

Delaware Manufactured Home Owners Association will hold a general membership meeting on Zoom and in person at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 27, at Angola Beach & Estates Clubhouse, 22971 Suburban Blvd., Lewes. The nonprofit entity represents the interests of approximately 50,000 homeowners living in manufactured housing on leased land all over Delaware. Juneteenth fête set for June 18

A Juneteeth Celebration will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, June 18, in Georgetown. Festivities kick off with a 10 a.m. parade in downtown Georgetown, followed by the celebration at 11 a.m. at the historic Richard Allen School, 316 S. Railroad Ave.

The celebration includes food, service and merchandise vendors; youth activities, games, entertainment and door prizes.

RD 37 Dems to hold caucus June 15

The Representative District 37 Democratic Committee will hold a virtual caucus at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, via Zoom, to elect new committee members following the recent redistricting.

Any registered Democrat residing in RD37 may participate in the election, and a business meeting to choose new RD37 officers will immediately follow. Elected committee members will serve until the first quarter of 2025; they are expected to attend meetings and party functions, and perform other tasks and duties as local party leaders. Nominees for committee membership must be registered Democrats residing in RD37 for at least one year before the caucus date and attend the caucus.

Rosedale Beach program set June 18

Zwaanendael Museum will present a free program on Rosedale Beach at 4 p.m., Saturday, June 18, via Zoom. Tamara Burks will discuss the Millsboro resort hotel where Black, Indigenous and other people of color found relaxation and entertainment from the early 1900s to the 1970s. Towers Comedy Festival set Nov. 3-5

Yoga, mindfulness for teens set June 15

Local nonprofit Mental Health Alternatives Inc. will host Yoga, Mindfulness and Glitter on the Beach for Teens from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, June 15, on Lewes Beach Lot C, across from East of Maui.

Participants will engage in a guided yoga session with instructor Hiba Stancofski and make their own mindfulness jars using glitter as a visual representation of the brain in calm vs. stressed-out states.

Teens will learn to connect breath through movement with yoga postures as well as practice using their breath to calm the brain and nervous system when dealing with daily pressure.
