Nicholas Steven Gruber, loved the outdoors

July 13, 2023

Nicholas “Nick” Steven Gruber, 31, of Lewes, passed away Monday, July 10, 2023. He was born Jan. 17, 1992, in Baltimore Md., son of Richard and Stacey Gruber.

Nick was employed by Schell Brothers, where he worked as a senior videographer. He was a 2010 graduate of North Carroll High School in Hampstead, Md., and a 2014 graduate of Marymount University in Arlington, Va. While at Marymount, Nick excelled as a two-sport athlete in soccer and lacrosse, and met the love of his life and future wife, Alexis.

Nick loved the outdoors, spending countless hours at the beach skimboarding and surfing. When he wasn’t at the beach, he was hiking with his dogs, snowboarding, skateboarding, exploring abandoned properties, adding to his extensive record collection, going to concerts to see his favorite bands, and traveling with his wife, Alexis. No matter what he was doing, he always had a camera in his hand.

To know Nick was to love him; his larger-than-life personality, his infectious smile, and his uncanny ability to strike up conversations with anyone and everyone endeared him to all who crossed his path.

Nick was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Michael Gruber and Louis J. Pucci; and his beloved pets, Kevin and Janis Hoplin. He is survived by his devoted wife of five years, Alexis Shaak-Gruber; his parents, Stacey and Richard Gruber of Hampstead, Md.; his brother, Casey Gruber (Beatrice) of Denver, Colo.; his sister, Maggie Gruber-Silcott (Braden) of Melbourne, Fla.; his maternal grandmother, Bunny S. Pucci of Baltimore, Md.; his paternal grandmother, Marion Gruber of Baltimore; his in-laws, Timothy and Cheryl Shaak of Brielle, N.J.; his many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his faithful dogs: Fitzgerald and Gus.

A funeral service will be held at 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 19, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy., Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 2 p.m.
