No road is too long when you have good company

August 8, 2020

In 2014, longtime Cape Gazette reader John Souder traveled to West Virginia on his 1984 BMW R100RT motorcycle. He attended a local club rally just down the road from Green Bank, West Virginia.

Green Bank is home to the world's first radio telescopes and is located within the National Radio Quiet Zone, which means that radio transmissions are heavily restricted by law. This policy is enforced by a "radio policeman" who uses specialized equipment to detect signals from unauthorized electronics. Due to the sensitivity of the telescopes there is no cell, radio or tv signals, making the Gazette John’s only source to get news from back home.
