Norma Lee Talley, Sussex government retiree

Norma Lee (Mitchell) Talley, 87, of Georgetown, born Aug. 31, 1933, passed away Thursday, March 18, 2021, at Bayhealth Sussex Campus in Milford.  

Norma Lee was born in Georgetown, daughter of the late Herman and Bertie Ellen (Lowe) Mitchell.

Norma Lee retired in July 1999, after 28 years as an employee of Sussex County Council, working as a clerk III in the Planning and Zoning Department.  She also served for many years as recording secretary for the Sussex County Board of Adjustment.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Georgetown.  Norma Lee loved travelling, and, as a devoted mom-mom, she loved attending activities and sports in which her grandchildren participated.

In addition to her parents, Norma Lee was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas F. Lewis; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and John Morris, and Ellen and Harold Todd; a sister, Louise Conaway; and brothers-in-law, Richard James, Frank Conaway and J. Russell Conaway.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Harry A. “Andy” Talley; a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen W. and Melissa Lathbury of Humble, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Stacey L. and Kris E. Rydland of Bear; stepson, Andrew S. Talley and wife Viktoria of New Castle; her estranged stepson, Russell B. Talley and family; five grandchildren, Josh Lathbury of Bear, Megan Lathbury Lankes and wife Eileen of Indian Land, S.C., and triplets Ashley, Jake and Connor Rydland of Bear; one great-grandson, Jaxon Lankes of Indian Land; two sisters, Dolly James and Sallie Conaway, both of Georgetown; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 26, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with a time of visitation for family and friends from 10 to 11 a.m.  Interment will be held in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church Cemetery in Georgetown.  All attending will be required to wear a mask and adhere to social distancing guidelines.
