Ocean to Bay Bike Tour gears up for April 24-25

March 13, 2020

The Ocean to Bay Bike Tour presented and hosted by the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce is slated for Friday and Saturday, April 24 and 25.

The popular show-and-go tour brings more than 2,500 cyclists to the Quiet Resorts each spring. The event kicks off with the 15-mile fun ride Friday, taking cyclists from downtown Bethany Beach to the Indian River Inlet and back, featuring a stop at the Big Chill Beach Club.

“This is the third year offering the fun run,” says Lauren Weaver, executive director of the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce and Race Director for the annual cycling event. “This is a great ride for novice riders looking to spend a beautiful Friday afternoon biking the coast, or an advanced cyclist that wants a warmup before the actual bike tour. It truly highlights the name ‘Ocean to Bay.’”

The main event kicks off at 7 a.m., Saturday,  at the Christian Conference Center in Bethany Beach. Participants can complete a 30-mile, 50-mile, metric century, or century course, traveling around the scenic beach and bay locales of Southern Delaware. Registrants can access break stops along each route offering restrooms, food and beverages. Support and gear wagons will be available to cyclists from 7:30 a.m to 2:30 p.m.

The supporting event sponsors, including Bayside, a Carl M. Freeman Company Community; Beazer Homes’ Bishops Landing; ResortQuest; and K. Hovnanian Homes at Beach Club, have played an active role in enhancing the overall experience of the Ocean to Bay Bike Tour.

“The partnerships with all of our sponsors and businesses have grown the event into a full weekend affair,” said Weaver. “With the majority of our cyclists coming from out of the area, people come to enjoy the Quiet Resorts for the entire weekend.”
